NEWS FROM CHALMERS P. WYLIE VA ACC The Columbus VA facility continues to operate with an interim Chief Voluntary Service Public Affairs officer for the present time. Our VSOs and the VA staff continue to work together in supporting our veterans. CONGRATULATIONS: Shedrick (Shed) Siler has completed the Technical Career Field Training program and is now “Voluntary Service Specialist” working at the Columbus VA facility. Remember to check out our Facebook Page: COLUMBUS VA AMBULATORY CARE CENTER We are working on the final arrangements for our ‘FOOD BOX” drive thru event for Thanksgiving being held at American Legion Post 144 on Friday, November 20th from 11:30am – 1:30pm. The boxes will be packed on Thursday, November 19th. “CHERYL’S COOKIES” is donating 400 of their gourmet cookies and District 12 auxiliaries will be providing an additional 1400 individual wrapped cookies for the gift box. A gift card is being provided by another VSO for each veteran. “The “Veteran Family Holiday Party” is scheduled for Saturday, December 12th from 10am – 2pm and will be held at the Columbus VA facility utilizing the North parking garage lower level for a “drive-thru”. This will allow for social distancing as no one will be getting out of their cars. Children will receive a bag of toys, a bag of treats and a selection of craft kits; Santa will be there to greet them . “Operation” Homefront” begins their toy drive on November 2nd; stores that have been assigned to our Columbus VA facility are located at: Bethel Road near Sawmill; Town & Country Shopping center on E. Broad Street with “additional stores in Canal Winchester, Marysville, Circleville, Chillicothe, Johnstown and Marion. When you are shopping for your family needs, keep the VA in mind and donate a toy(s). Funding is always needed for these special events; for more information contact the VAVS office staff at: 614-257-5293, 614-257-5493, 614-388-7874 or 614-388-7920. “COMPASSIONATE CONTACT CORPS” is a new program at the Columbus VA to bring veterans and volunteers together thru a phone a call once a week to check in ease their loneliness. Since the beginning of the first calls, the volunteers and the veterans have developed meaningful friendships.
