Honor those who fought for our freedom. GIVE NOW >

The Purple Heart is a combat decoration awarded to those members of the U.S. Armed Forces who were wounded by an enemy of the United States. The decoration is also bestowed posthumously to the next of kin of those killed or who died of wounds received in action.
Today is Purple Heart Day when we honor those brave men and women. To commemorate their heroism, please make a special gift — over and above your membership support – to NVMM. Your extra generosity will preserve and celebrate the stories of our nation’s Veterans.I’ll make a special gift!

NVMM is the only national museum dedicated to honoring the courageous men and women from all branches of our country’s armed services. With your additional support, you’ll preserve the stories of their sacrifice and service — uplifting and encouraging us all, especially during these challenging times.

One of those service members is Robert Maxwell, whose story and heroism is chronicled inside the museum — and who represents every Purple Heart recipient. Mr. Maxwell, who served in the Army during World War II, smothered a grenade blast with his own body to save three fellow soldiers. Today, nearly 2 million service members have received this combat decoration for the sacrifices they made in defense of the cause of freedom. I’ll give today!I know you’ll want to pay tribute to Mr. Maxwell and every courageous Veteran and their families — just as I know you recognize how their sacrifices can guide our country toward a brighter future. Please make your special gift today. Honor every Veteran. Ensure that their stories are never forgotten. Respectfully and Hooah!Lieutenant General Michael Ferriter, U.S. Army (Ret.)President, National Veterans Memorial and Museum
